Obituary of Carl L. Olson

Carl L. "Roy" Olson, 96, of 152 Aldren Ave Jamestown, passed away peacefully Tuesday March 22, 2016 in WCA Hospital surrounded by his family. An area resident most of his life, he was born December 26, 1919 in Antrim, PA the son of the late Charles O. and Selma Edstrom Olson. Roy was a 1938 graduate of Jamestown High School. He was a US Army veteran of WWII serving with the 77th Division, 305 Infantry, Company D. He saw action in Guam, Okinawa, and the Philippine Islands. He participated in the occupation of Japan at Hokkaido Japan and was awarded the Bronze Star for action in Okinawa. For 30 years, he worked as a salesman with the Millcraft Paper Co., retiring in 1979. Following retirement, he tended bar at the Vikings until 1981 and continued working into his 90's at Jamestown Macadam. Roy was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Eagles, and a former member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club and Vikings. He loved golf and was an avid fisherman. Surviving are his son, Curtis Olson (Liz) of Jamestown, NY; a step son, Rhoe B. Henderson III (Sharron) of Lakewood, NY; a step daughter, Caryl H. Herson (Steve) of Larchmont, NY; step grandchildren, Gregory Herson (Elizabeth) of Carlsbad, CA; Christopher Herson (Kathy) of Mt Kisco, NY; Christopher Henderson of Jamestown, NY; and Brittnay Snyder (Nick) of Fairport, NY; his brother, Roger Olson (Carla) of Jamestown, NY; and his close nephew, Tom Olson (Faith) of Lakewood, NY. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Sutton Olson who died October 10, 1971; and his second wife, Audrey Hairfield Olson who died March 3, 2012. A Celebration of his life will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday March 26, 2016 in Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt will officiate. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service Saturday in the church. Interment will be in Lake View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roy's memory to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 556 E. Second Street, Jamestown, NY 14701.
