Obituary of Jeane E. Stark

Jeane E. Stark, 95, of Jamestown, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2016, in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. An area resident for most of her life, she was born April 18, 1920 in Busti, NY, the youngest child of the late John and Karna Kristensson Nelson, who were immigrants from Skane, Sweden. Jeane was a 1937 graduate of Jamestown High School where she was a member of the Alpha Tau Chapter of the National Honor Society. She was a longtime active member of the Bethel Lutheran Church for more than 60 years, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She had a strong passion for the mission of the Lutheran Church Women, an organization in which she was actively involved at both the congregational and synodical levels. For many years Jeane was a member of the American Scandinavian Heritage Foundation. In earlier years, she gave many hours as a volunteer at several local organizations including, the Chautauqua County Chapter of the American Red Cross, the St. Susan's Soup Kitchen, the former Jamestown General Hospital and the Lutheran Social Services. While she lived in Cleveland, OH she served as Assistant Director of the Volunteer Department at Sunny Acres Hospital where she also gave many hours as a volunteer, working directly with patients with multiple sclerosis. Surviving is a daughter, Elaine (Stan) Gallup of Jamestown, Daughter-in-law, Patricia Stark of Herndon, VA, five grandchildren, all of whom affectionately called her "mormor", Daniel Gallup of Powell,OH, Cathi (John) Sapp of Columbus, OH, Geoffrey (Rachael) Stark of Deptford, NJ, Bryan (Katharine) Stark of Richmond, VA, Justin Stark of Herndon, VA and seven great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Forest G. Stark whom she married May 18, 1940 and who died May 22, 2007, a son, Larry Stark who died in 2010, three sisters, Hattie Thornblad, Anna Miller, Gerda Johnson and a brother, Mauritz Nelson. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in Christ Chapel of Lutheran Social Services. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt, pastor of the Lutheran Home and the Rev. Alan W. Anderson, pastor of Bethel Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-6 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday in Christ Chapel of Lutheran Social Services.
