Obituary of Jack L. Eger

Jack L. Eger, 91, formerly of Lakewood, died Sunday March 27, 2016, in Franklin, TN. He was born January 27, 1925, in Binghamton, NY, a son of the late Dean and Martha Lutz Eger. He graduated from Albany High School in 1942. In 1943 he volunteered to serve his country in the U.S. Army. Jack was a Private, first class, in the 6th Armored Division. He earned a Combat Infantryman Badge and Rifle Marksman. During his deployment to the European Theater in World War II he was combat wounded and carried a piece of German shrapnel in his hip to his final day. Jack earned a Purple Heart, 2 Bronze Battle Stars and a European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon. Jack returned home to graduate from Union College in 1950. He was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He married Catherine "Cotty" Benzie Fox on May 26, 1951. They remained happily married until Cotty passed away in 2012. In 1973 they moved to Lakewood, NY, where he resided until relocating to Tennessee in 2012. Jack was a second generation F.W. Woolworth employee. His father was a division buyer for the retailer in NYC. Jack managed many Woolworth stores in MA and NY. After over 40 years, he retired in 1990 as General Manager of the F.W. Woolworth in Lakewood, NY. Surviving is his daughter Lynne Anderson (Paul) of Brentwood, TN; granddaughter Courtney Anderson of Franklin, TN; grandson Dalton Anderson (Samantha) of Pennsauken, NJ and great grandsons Jake and Luca. Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother Dean Eger, Jr. and sister Martha "Jean" Davis. Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. Sunday April 17th in the Lind Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery Columbarium.
