Obituary of William E. Bloom

William E. Bloom, 88, of Falconer, NY, passed away at 6:22 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016, in W.C.A. Hospital following a brief illness. An area resident for most of his life, he was born January 15, 1928 in Oakridge, PA a son of the late Eloy and Margaret Moyle Bloom. Bill served in the U.S. Coast Guard- Merchant Marines from September 22, 1944 to July 2, 1945 during World War II on the Merchant Ships Willet M. Hays and the Charles L. McNary. In 1948 he joined the U.S. Army serving until 1949 when he transferred to the Army Reserves during the Korean War. .Before his retirement in 1989, he was the maintenance supervisor for Alltel, Inc. where he worked for 31 years. He was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church. He was also a longtime member of the Jamestown Eagles Lodge, the Ingjald Lodge 65 Independent Order of the Vikings and the Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion. He will be remembered as a loving and caring father and grandfather who loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed his late night poker games with his best friends and of course he loved his New York Yankees. Surviving are his six children, Lynn (Dale) Long of Jamestown, Debbie (Keith) Morano of Falconer, Brenda Nelson of Salisbury, NC, William (Diana) Bloom of Jamestown, Nanci (Rick) Brady of Falconer, Gail (Daniel) Barker of Jamestown, 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and his sister, Colleen Post of Rochester, NY. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Dolores A. Johnson Bloom whom he married November 4, 1950 and who died October 24, 2012 and a brother Jack Bloom. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor of Holy Apostles Parish will officiate. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 West Fairmount Ave. Lakewood, NY 14750.
