Obituary of Ricardo L. Donato

Ricardo Donato, 91 of 99 Newton Ave Jamestown, passed away Sunday April 17, 2016 in WCA Hospital. He was born January 28, 1925 in Arroyo, Puerto Rico, the son of the late Pedro D. and Marcolina Lebron Boyer. Ricardo was a WWII veteran serving as a Platoon Sergeant in the US Army. Following the war, he moved to the Jamestown area, working at Art Metal Corp. for 25 years until it closed. He then caned chairs for many years, working with various chair factories until his retirement. Following retirement, he moved back to Puerto Rico where he spent 32 years before coming back to Jamestown four years ago. While in town, he was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and was a member of the VFW, DAV, and the American Legion. Ricardo was very family oriented. Having family together was most important to him. Surviving are his wife of 74 years, Isabel Soltero Donato; six children: Carmen (Dave) King; Gladys (Jerry) Gruber; Evelyn DeMarco; Ricardo (Brenda) Donato; Myrna Dowd; Robert (Tammie) Donato; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; and a sister, Sara Marrero. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Jodie Dowd and Shane Donato; a sister, Carmen Donato Lebron; and a brother, Rafael L. Donato. The funeral service will be held at 12 noon Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. Deacon Michael Lennon of St James Catholic Church will officiate. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service Thursday in the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations in Ricardo's memory may be made to the American Heart Association.
