Obituary of Douglas G. Brown

Douglas G. Brown, 86, of Lakewood, NY formerly of Belmont, NY, passed away Friday April 22, 2016 in UPMC Hamot Medical Center Erie, PA. He was born August 12, 1929 in Davison, MI the son of the late Glenn D. and Leona May Wales Brown. Doug was a US Army Veteran serving in Korea during the Korean War. Prior to retirement, he was a letter carrier with the US Postal Service in Belmont, NY. In earlier years, he was a cheese maker at Cuba Cheese. At the time, he was the youngest licensed cheese maker in New York State. He was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church; Lakewood Rod and Gun Club; TOPS; Jamestown Coin Club; Korean War Veterans of America; and a life member of the NRA. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping, and was a Civil War history buff. He was high on integrity, quiet by nature, and possessed a wonderful sense of humor. Doug was very family oriented and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Lillian Skinner Brown; seven children, Laurence D. Brown of Shinglehouse, PA; April Brown Case (David) of Gloucester, VA; Lowell S. Brown (Vilma A.) of Phillipsburg, NJ; Raymund L. Brown (Phyllis A.) of Cleveland, TN; Morgan D. Brown of Washington, DC; Neysa M. Martinez (Alberto) of Val Pariso, FL; Merritt N. Brown (Paula) of Navarre, OH; 13 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a brother, Myron Dee Brown (Patsy) of Durant, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, David Glenn Brown; a grandson; and two brothers, Budd S. Brown and Nelson Joe Brown. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Lakewood United Methodist Church. The Rev. Violet Davidson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lakewood United Methodist Church 164 Shadyside Ave. Lakewood, NY 14750; or the Chautauqua County Humane Society 2825 Strunk Road Jamestown, NY 14701.
