Obituary of John B. Swanson

John "Jack" Bernard Swanson, 84, of the Heritage Village Retirement Campus, Gerry, NY, formerly of West Oak Hill Rd. Jamestown, NY, passed away Friday, April 22, 2016, at the Gates Vascular Institute, Buffalo, NY. A lifelong area resident, he was born July 28, 1931 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Walfred and Ruth Ogren Swanson. Jack was a graduate of Falconer High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving from April 12, 1951 to April 13, 1955. Before his retirement he was employed in the maintenance department for the Bemus Point Central School System for many years. In earlier years he worked with his father in law, Lawrence Love, at the Moonbrook Fur Farm. He was a member of the Fluvanna Community Church and a longtime member of the Fluvanna Volunteer Fire Department. In previous years, he and his late wife Carol were very active in the Ross Grange and also the local 4-H Club. He also volunteered at the Chautauqua County Overlook for over 10 years and he loved going to the job every other Friday. Surviving are his daughter, Holley (Charlie) Clough of Lake Oswego, OR, and two grandsons, Adam (Brittany) Clough, Evan Clough both of Portland, OR. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife the former Carol Love Swanson whom he married September 17, 1955 and who died October 18, 2008 and a sister, Barbara Swanson. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Fluvanna Community Church. The Rev. Dayle F. Keefer, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Fluvanna Cemetery.
