Obituary of Janet M. Anderson

Janet M."Grandma Jan" Anderson, 93, formerly of 260 Baker Street, died April 23, 2016, in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing. A native of Jamestown, she was born February 5, 1923, a daughter of the late David and Mildred Nelson Anderson. She had been employed by Richard Shoes, Brown Bilt Shoe Store and Automatic Voting Machine. During WWII she was a "Rosie the Riveter" at Art Metal. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and the Diana Lodge. As a foster grandparent at Lincoln Elementary School for 20 years, she was known as "Grandma Jan" to the students until her retirement at age 85. Surviving are five children David (Sara) Anderson of Tallahassee, FL, Jeffrey (Penny) Anderson of Jamestown, Barry (Barbara) Anderson of Bemus Point, Bradley (Sandra) Anderson of Panama and Shari (Linn) Hyde of Warren, PA and Gulf Shores, AL; fourteen grandchildren Krista McMullen, Jessica Messersmith, Derek, Brianna, Jesse, Michael, Heath, Britt, Rachel and Vanessa Anderson, Chad, Brad and Kristi Kulig and Kara Melone; eight great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and a sister Joan Hult of Jamestown. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Runie Anderson, whom she married July 31, 1942 and who died August 29, 1974. The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in Bethel Lutheran Church. Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Frewsburg. Friends will be received from 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home.
