Obituary of Helen W. Osthagen

Helen W. Osthagen, 91, of 2365 Carlson Rd., Jamestown, NY, passed away at 11:40 p.m. Sunday, May 29, 2016, in W.C.A. Hospital. A lifelong area resident, she was born June 9, 1924 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late Edward H. and Flora "May" Geis Waterman. Before her retirement, she was employed by the former Field and Wright Company for many years and during World War II had worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" at the Douglas Aircraft Plant in Santa Monica, CA, where they built the A-20 Havoc Bomber. She will be remembered for her love of flowers and gardening and was a member and Past Secretary of the Jamestown Garden Club. In later years she enjoyed playing golf. Surviving are her husband, William A. Osthagen, Jr., a son, William E. Osthagen of Foley, AL, two grandsons, Daniel Townsend of Foley, AL, William E. Osthagen, Jr. of Mayville, NY, a sister, Joyce Greenfield of Jamestown and three nieces, Pam LeClair, Barbara Benedetto and Becky Greenfield. A private graveside service will be held in Lake View Cemetery. The Rev. Adam Rohler, pastor of the First Covenant Church will officiate. Visitation will not be observed.
