Obituary of Loyd E. Swain

Loyd E. Swain, 76, of 4565 Colburn Road, Bemus Point, NY, passed away peacefully with his family at his side, Monday June 6, 2016 following a long illness. He was born August 16, 1939, in Elmira, NY, a son of the late Orvil and Florence Smith Swain. Loyd attended Elmira College. He had a long and successful career, after retiring from executive level positions; Loyd owned and operated several small businesses. Loyd was a longtime communicant of St. James Catholic Church. He was a member of Cuba Chamber of Commerce, Cuba Rotary, Falconer Seniors and the Celtics. He owned and managed sprint car and late model dirt race teams with his son Loyd and grandson Tyson. He enjoyed shooting trap, golfing, coaching Little League and traveling in his motor home. Loyd is survived by his wife Carol Swain whom he married December 30, 1999; four children Loyd (Andrea) Swain II of Cooperstown, PA, Jean Ann (Barry) Searl of Cuba, NY, JoAnn (Jeff) Kester of Bemus Point and James (Julie) Swain of Halthorpe, MD; grandchildren Tyson (Kelly), Jennifer (Dustin), Jessica (Steve), Corinna, Courtney, Christina (Burt) and Hayley; three great grandchildren; siblings Imogene "Ninne" (David) Allen of Webster, NY, Kenneth (Brenda) Swain of Galveston, TX and Frances "Franny" (David) Wagner of Elmira, NY and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. James Catholic Church. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 6:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice or Cuba Little League, PO Box 265, Cuba, NY 14727.
