Obituary of Don A. Carlson

Don A. Carlson, 86, of 5105 Baker Street, Ext, Ashville, died peacefully Sunday June 12, 2016, in his home. An area resident all of his life, he was born September 17, 1929, in Jamestown, a son of the late Andrew and Edith Steinfurth Carlson of Lakewood He was a graduate of Jamestown High School. He enlisted in the US Army in 1951 followed by his commissioning in 1952. He retired from active duty in 1955 and later joined the US Army Reserve, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1998. He was employed by Dahlstrom Manufacturing from 1948-51, returning in 1955 after his military service and retired after many years of service as sales manager. Don was a lifelong outdoorsman and conservationist and pursued his second career as a member of the staff the Jamestown Audubon Society. He was an active member of the Reserve Officers Association for over 59 years. Surviving are three children B.Gail (Paul) Internicola of Utica, NY, Jeff (Mary) Carlson of Ashville and Joe (Toni) Carlson of Round Rock, TX; 9 grandchildren, Jason Price, Corinne (Lenny) Schmidt, Matthew Price, Kristen (Scott) Baker, Andrew (Jan) Carlson, Benjamin (Angie)Carlson, Casey Carlson, Lindsay Carlson, Sean Carlson and 7 great grandchildren, Presley Price, Cora Schmidt, Logan Baker, Leah Baker, Levi Baker, Katherine Carlson, Zachary Carlson He was preceded in death by his wife the former Barbara Fairbank, whom he married in 1953 and who died in 2012 and three sisters Carol Swanson, Virginia Paine and Norma Reeves. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed. Memorials may be made to Jamestown Audubon Society, 1600 Riverside Road, Jamestown, NY 14701.
