Obituary of Marjorie I. Beckman

Marjorie I. Beckman, 95, of 116 Hazeltine Ave. , formerly of 268 Broadhead Ave. Jamestown, passed away at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2016, in her home. A lifelong area resident, she was born October 23, 1920 in Jamestown, NY the daughter of the late Edward D. and Hetty Broadbent Bulman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold A. Beckman who died December 19, 1995. They were married September 15, 1944 and shared their lives together for 51 years. Marjorie was a 1938 graduate of the former Celoron High School and had been employed by various places over the years including, Duramold, Fairchild Engine and Aircraft Corporation, Millcraft Paper Company, Chautauqua County Veterans Service Agency, Jamestown Mutual Insurance and the Unigard Insurance Company, from where she retired in 1984. She was a member of the Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church, Ira Lou Spring Post # 149 American Legion Auxiliary, Celoron Historical Society and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club Auxiliary. She was also a past president of the M.J. Fletcher PTA and a Life Member of the PTA and was a past officer of the Jamestown Babe Ruth League. Marjorie loved sports and was an avid fan of her son, who played baseball, coached hockey and her grandson Nick, who played youth hockey. She loved her country and was especially proud to be an American. She grew up in the village of Celoron where in her youth had worked at an ice cream stand in Celoron Park. She loved to tell stories of Lucille Ball, her neighbor who lived across the street. Marjorie was always kind and generous with a huge capacity to love. She had a special pride in her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Surviving is a son, Brian E. (Angie) Beckman, with whom she made her home, two grandchildren, Nicholas C. (Melissa) Beckman of Kenmore, NY, Craig (Carolyn) Bosworth of San Diego, CA, six great grandchildren, Colleen, Craig, Jr., Emily and Luke Bosworth all of San Diego, Brennan and Margaret Beckman of Kenmore and several nieces and nephews. The family would also like to thank her caregivers, Mona Nord, Earlene Mays, Jan Pacheco, Joan Holmes and Kathy Cross for their loving and compassionate care they gave to Marjorie during her final months. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Carolyn Stow, pastor of the Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-5 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
