Obituary of James N. Carlson

James N. Carlson, Sr., 96, of 842 N. Main Street, died Sunday July 17, 2016, in UPMC Hamot, Erie, PA. A native of Jamestown, he was born March 18, 1920, a son of the late Henry and Anna Sandberg Carlson. He was a 1940 graduate of Jamestown High School and served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. For many years he was employed by Carlson Plumbing as a journeyman plumber. He was a member of the Falconer Horseshoe Club. He loved playing baseball and played third base for several teams including the Jamestown Falcons and Ed's Breads. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time at his cottage on Lake Erie. Surviving are six children Anne (Jerry Bennett) Holdsworth of Black Mountain, North Carolina, James (Leslie) Carlson of Jamestown, Richard (Annette) Carlson of Ashville, Susan (Steve Arnone) Carlson of Jamestown, Joanne (Sheryl Kridler) Carlson of Joplin, MO and Jon (Leslie Shattuck) Carlson of Vashon, WA; seven grandchildren Erin, Lisa, Sara, Andy, Ashley, Laura and Lauren; five great grandchildren Gabe, Sierra, Ethan, Piper, Lola and two on the way and a sister Helen Mae Smith of Lakewood. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife the former Carol Soderquist, whom he married in 1949 and who died in 1987; a brother Henry Carlson; a sister Ione Wragge and his longtime companion Barbara Littell. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Friday.
