Obituary of Joyce C. Bracey

Joyce C. Bracey, 95, of 535 Hunt Road WE, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2016 in her home. A lifelong area resident, she was born in Jamestown on June 4, 1921, a daughter of the late Gerald and Berenice Hoyt Cheney, and was a 1939 graduate of Jamestown High School. In earlier years, she had been employed in the comptroller's office of the City of Jamestown and then for 25 years by the Social Security Administration office in Jamestown, receiving a Superior Award in 1968. In later years, she worked as a demonstrator for Tops Market and for many years as an Election Inspector. Joyce was a longtime member of Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church and former member of Grace United Methodist Church. She belonged to the West Ellicott Seniors, Antique Club, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, Vikings, YWCA, War Vets and formerly to the Business and Professional Women. She also enjoyed collecting Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls and attending craft shows, rummage sales and flea markets. Joyce will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Surviving are two children: Dennis R. (Barbara) Bracey of Columbia, SC and Susan (Michael) Bracey Erlandson of the Town of Ellicott; four grandchildren: Drew (Amanda) Erlandson of Bemus Point, Kyle Erlandson of Jamestown, James (Kelley) Byars of Columbia, SC and Beth (Trevor) Hray of Beaufort, SC; and four great-grandchildren: Owen and Finn Erlandson and Rebecca and Sarah Hray. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Roger Anderson of Lakewood, as well as several nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Henry R. "Hank" Bracey, whom she married in April of 1945 and who died in March of 2005 following 60 years of marriage. She was also preceded by two sisters, Barbara Anderson and Shirley Brace. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Carolyn Stow, pastor of Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Bemus Point Cemetery. Friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service Saturday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church, 385 S.
