Obituary of Gloria A. Nelson

Gloria A. Nelson, 89, formerly of 1974 Buffalo St Ext, passed away Friday February 24, 2017 in the Lutheran Retirement Home. She was born August 8, 1927 in Jamestown the daughter of the late Otto and Selma Ekstrand Carlson. Gloria was a 1945 graduate of Jamestown High School. For 20 years, she worked as an Administrative Assistant at Lutheran Social Services, retiring in 1979. Following retirement, she was a Real Estate Agent with Stahlman Reality for many years. She was confirmed at First Lutheran Church and was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Gloria was also a member of the Norden Women's Club, volunteered at WCA Hospital, and enjoyed gardening and knitting. Surviving are two sons: J. Randall (Dawn) Nelson of Webster, NY; Mark I. (Ruth) Nelson of Russell, PA; five grandchildren: Dr. Ryan C. (Carrie) Nelson of Brighton, NY; Lindsay R. (Chris) Kidder of Baldwinsville, NY; Jeffrey D. Nelson of Warren, PA; Tobin M. (Sarah) Nelson of Pittsburgh, PA; Zachary R. Nelson of Oakmont, PA; and seven great grandchildren: Avery, Audrey, and Henry Nelson; Jackson and Blake Kidder, Elyse and Luke Nelson. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Irving T. "Irv" Nelson whom she married September 6, 1947 and who died December 30, 2011; a daughter-in-law, Charlotte Ann Nelson; a brother, Harold C. Carlson; and sister-in-law, June Carlson. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the Lutheran Home for the wonderful care given to both Gloria and Irv, and also to a special friend, Bonnie Cowan who cared for Gloria while she was still at home. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday March 4, 2017 in Christ Chapel at the Lutheran Home, 715 Falconer Street, Jamestown, NY 14701. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt, chaplain, will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service Saturday in Christ Chapel.
