Obituary of Nelson M. Lynde

Nelson M. Lynde III, 81, of Bemus Point, passed away Friday March 31, 2017 in UPMC Chautauqua WCA Hospital. He was born November 15, 1935 in Fort Benning, Georgia the son of the late Major General (Ret.) Nelson M. Lynde Jr. and Gertrude Lange Lynde. Nelson was a graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point. He served in the US Air Force during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, attaining the rank of Captain. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Diebold Corp. and also served as Chautauqua County Ombudsman under Andrew Goodell. Nelson was a longtime member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. He loved spending time with his wife traveling across country in their RV. Nelson also enjoyed camping, hunting, especially deer hunting; was an avid reader, and volunteered at the Humane Society. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Valerie Biekarck Lynde; three children: Nelson M. (Lisa) Lynde IV of Bemus Point; Rex K. (Liberty U.) Lynde of Dayton, OH; Pamela R. (Lester) Ko of Delmar, NY; four grandchildren: Mary Cosmilla, Mallory A. Lynde, Bodie Ko, Eleanor Ko; and a great granddaughter: Liberty Maryne Cosmilla. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sally Leech. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday April 4, 2017 in the Chapel at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. The Rev Luke F. Fodor, Rector, will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service in the undercroft of the church.
