Obituary of Brian L. Melquist

Brian L. Melquist, 66, of 2960 Moon Rd., Jamestown, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017, in the UPMC Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA, following a sudden illness. A lifelong area resident, he was born June 21, 1950 in Jamestown, NY, a son of the late Robert R. and Allene Hoard Melquist. Brian was a 1968 graduate of Falconer Central School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from July 15, 1970 to February 22, 1972. Following his discharge he served in the U.S. Army reserves until 1976. Before his retirement this past year, he was a sheet metal engineer for the Ulrich Planfiling Equipment Corporation in Lakewood, NY. He was a life member of the Fluvanna Fire Department and enjoyed his many years with the dedicated members of the department. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who cherished the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, the former Ardith Gollnick whom he married August 10, 1968, three children, Jennifer (Mike) Carvella of Knoxville, TN, Derek (Lori) Melquist, Travis (Danielle) Melquist both of Jamestown, six grandchildren, Cameron and Carissa Carvella of Knoxville, TN, Emily Melquist, Hannah Melquist, Kaylee Melquist, Theo Melquist all of Jamestown, a sister, Marcia (Curtis Dooyema) Ogden of Houston, TX, three brothers, Gary (Kathleen) Melquist of Lakewood, NY, Dale (Susan) Melquist, Mark (Lisa) Melquist both of Jamestown, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two infant sons and an infant grandson, Mitchell Carvella. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2017, in the Lind Funeral Home. Carl Davis will officiate. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Monday, prior to the service in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Fluvanna Fire Department, 3536 Fluvanna Ave. Ext. Jamestown, NY 14701.
