Obituary of Salvatore J. DeFrisco

Salvatore J. "Sal" DeFrisco, 89, of 2123 Southwestern Drive, Lakewood, NY, passed away at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2017, in his home. An area resident for most of his life he was born October 19, 1927 in New Dorp, New York on Staten Island. Sal was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from January 23, 1946 to April 3, 1947 during World War II. Before his retirement, he owned and operated S & R Auto Repair on Washington St. for 40 years. He was a member of the Randolph Post 181 American Legion. In earlier years he was an avid roller skater and had a keen interest in older cars. Surviving are his wife of 68 years Winifred Haskell DeFrisco whom he married October 23, 1948, two daughters, Sally Anne (Eugene) Jaquith of Sinclairville, NY, Suzann (John) Ruffner of Darien, NY, four grandchildren, Christopher Jaquith of Lakewood, NY, Jeremy Jaquith of Gerry, NY, Robert Ruffner of East Aurora, NY, Thomas Ruffner of Lumberton Township, NJ, nine great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, two brothers, James DeFrisco and Victor (Roseanne) DeFrisco both of Jamestown. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sheila Burkey, two sisters, Lucille (Wallace) Cheney, Margaret (William) Rowley and a sister-in-law, Mary Amato DeFrisco. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Timothy Phelps, hospice chaplain will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery. Family and friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
