Obituary of Carlyle G. Carlson

Carlyle "Skip" G. Carlson, 71, of 1751 Foote Ave. Ext., Jamestown, passed away on Friday, Nov. 17, 2017 in UPMC Hamot in Erie. An area resident all of his life, he was born on June 15, 1946 in Fredonia, a son of the late Frank and Helen Shipman Carlson. Skip was a graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Vietnam War. Before retiring in 1998 he was employed as a firefighter with the Jamestown Fire Dept for 25 years. In earlier years he had worked at Crescent Tool. Following retirement he owned and operated Mondays Lounge and a few other businesses. He was a member of the Sugar Grove AMVETS, Herman Kent Post #777 American Legion, Jamestown Elks Lodge, and the Jamestown Moose Lodge. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed going to the casino, traveling, and spending time with his friends. Skip is survived by his life partner and soul mate of 31 years, Deborah R. Smith; a daughter Patricia Gonzales and her mother Ann Marie Carlson; a daughter Mellissa Smith; two sons Marc and Thomas Smith; seven grandchildren: Andrew (Kirsten) Gonzales, Adam Gonzales, Brandon Hawley, Kira Pelham, Kyle Hillyard, Jessica Simons, Kristen Abers; 16 great grandchildren; two brothers: Larry (Janice) Carlson and Rich (Marge) Carlson; brother in law Warren Crandall; several nieces and nephews; and an extended loving family. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Donald Carlson; a sister Millie Crandall; and a son in law Steve Gonzales. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017 in the Lind Funeral Home where full military honors will be conducted by the Jamestown Vietnam Veterans. The Rev. Richard Hamilton will officiate. Friends will be received from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home where the Jamestown Fire Dept. will have an honor guard present. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
