Obituary of Martha N. Magnuson

Martha Nisson Magnuson, 88, died Monday January 1, 2018 in Heritage Park Health Care Center, Jamestown, NY. She was born April 26, 1929 in Jamestown, the daughter of Frances (Beaty) and Dr. Frederick W. Nisson. She is survived by her children Mark N. of Nashville, TN; Susan (Mark) Austin of Matthews, NC; grandson Greg W. Austin of Charlotte, NC; sisters-in-law Priscilla (Magnuson) Hubbard of Amherst, VA and Mary L. (Magnuson) Smith, brother-in-law Donald Smith of Chester, VA; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Martha was devotedly cared for the last 3 years of her life by Marcia Brown of Falconer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don L Magnuson who died in 2011 and sister Ruth N. Lutz in 2001. Martha graduated in 1948 from Jamestown High School and in 1951 graduated with a degree in retailing from Rochester Institute of Technology. She attended St. Luke's Episcopal Church and was a past member of Lakewood Rod and Gun, Chautauqua Lake Yacht Club and the Vikings. Martha was an avid gardener and enjoyed playing bridge and golf with her many friends. She was known for her quick wit and interest in others, always taking the time to sit with a cup of tea with lemon and engage in conversation. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held the end of April on her birthday. Memorials may be made to the Audubon Community Nature Center or St. Luke's Episcopal Church's 'Children of the Book' program.
