Obituary of Roy Folke Olson

Roy Folke Olson, 83, formerly of 1480 Forest Ave. Ext., passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018 in the Lutheran Retirement Home. He was born February 18, 1934 in Jamestown, a son of the late K. Algot and Agnes Larson Olson Franson. He was also preceded in death by his step-father, Enor Franson, as well as a brother, Danny C. Olson. A lifelong area resident, Roy was a 1953 graduate of Jamestown High School and served from 1956 to 1958 in the US Army with duty in Germany. Throughout the years, he was a butcher for several local markets, including the GMA Store, the A & P Store in Brooklyn Square, and retired from Quality Markets. Roy was a member of the Vikings and enjoyed fishing, yard work and in later years, bicycling at Presque Isle in Erie, PA He is survived by his wife, the former Ann-Marie Johnson, whom he married November 1, 1958; two sons: Mark (Pauline) Olson of Jamestown and Ruben (Karen) Olson of Amherst, NH; five grandchildren: Justin and Matthew Olson of Jamestown, Ashleigh Olson of Colorado, and Andrea and Adam Olson of Amherst, NH; two step-granddaughters: Erin Black of Jamestown and Nicole Badgley of Augusta, GA; and five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service, from noon to 1 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
