Obituary of Helen A. Card

Helen A. Card, 97 years old, formerly of 95 Hallock St left on her final trip March 30 2018. Those who knew Helen loved her inveterate wanderlust, which led her to more than 66 Elder Hostel experiences. Whether traveling overland or cruising, an invitation to travel brought a response of, "When are we leaving?" When in Jamestown, Helen was office manager for the late Myron B. Franks, MD for 32 years, retiring in 1994.

A close second to travel, was Helen's passion for an afternoon at the bridge table. She loved to read, was very proud of her Swedish heritage and her lifelong membership of First Presbyterian Church was very important to her. She belonged to the Vikings Lodge, Thule Lodge, American Scandinavian Heritage Foundation, Antique Study Club and the Transplant Garden Club. Very fond of the opera and symphony, Helen enjoyed frequent visits to Chautauqua Institution.

Relocating to the Hudson Valley six years ago was never Helen's choice. In her mind, there is no place on earth that can compare with Jamestown.

Helen was the widow of Charles G. Card and was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Johnson and a brother W. Fred Anderson.

Born May 20, 1920, Helen was daughter of William E and Mildred Richey Anderson. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1938 and Jamestown Business College in 1940.

Helen was a devoted mother and grandmother. She leaves behind two daughters, Janet (Philip) Schneider of Ada, MI and Susan (James) Ulrich of Shokan, NY. Her grandchildren are Eric Schneider, Amy Beute, Nathan Schneider, Matthew Ulrich, Kurt Ulrich and Jeremy Ulrich. Helen's great-grandchildren are Jordan, Sam and Max Merritt, Alexa Grove Schneider, Charlie and Sara Schneider and Sam, Alex, Zoe and Bruce Ulrich. Liam Merritt is her great- great-grandson.

Helen's service will be held on Saturday, April 7th at 2:00PM in Bellinger Chapel of First Presbyterian Church. Friends are welcome to gather at the church one hour prior to the service for visitation and to help celebrate Helen's life.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Rising Hope, Inc. 230 King's Mall Ct, #124, Kingston, NY 12401.
