Obituary of Richard E. Johnson

Richard E. Johnson, 87, of Lakewood, NY passed away on Sunday, November 5th, 2023, at UPMC Hamot in Erie, PA. He was born December 7th, 1935, in Jamestown, NY, a son of the late Carl E. and Elsie (Warner) Johnson. Richard was a graduate of Jamestown High School Class of 1953 and received his Bachelor of Arts in Christian Education and his Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C. Before his retirement, he was a teacher for the Southwestern Central School District for 32 years as a 6th grade teacher at Southwestern Middle School and a 5th grade teacher at Lakewood Elementary School. He was a longtime active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church where he served on many boards and committees. He was also a 25 year plus member of the Vikings Lodge, the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, the Alumni Association of Bob Jones University, and the National Education Association. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather who loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved traveling and spending summers at the ocean. He was also an avid sports fan who enjoyed supporting local teams as well as the Buffalo Bills and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He always loved a good garage sale or buying/selling sports cards or antiques. He enjoyed living in Chautauqua County and being a part of its rich local history. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Allyce (Johnson) Johnson whom he married on August 16th, 1958, a son Jeffrey Johnson (Carrie) of Dunkirk, NY; a daughter Kimberlee (Michael) Nowell of Jamestown, NY; three grandchildren: Michael Nowell II of Jamestown, NY; Ashley (Jesse) Nelsen of Lenoir City, Tennessee; and Adam (Arianne) Johnson of Pittsburgh, PA. and four great-grandchildren: Katrina, Leah, Olivia, and Ben Nelsen of Lenoir City, Tennessee.
