Obituary of Matthew L. Freay

Matthew L. Freay, 56, of Jamestown, passed away Monday morning, Dec. 11, 2023 at UPMC Chautauqua, surrounded by his loving family, following a two year battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease. Matt was born in Jamestown on Sept. 1, 1967 and was a son of Onnolee Anderson Freay and the late Charles G. Freay. A 1985 graduate of Southwestern Central School, he graduated in December of 1990 with a bachelor's degree in economics and a minor in music from Miami University Ohio. He had been an accountant and underwriter for several firms, including more recently Planes Moving & Storage in Cincinnati, Ohio. His love of music began as a drummer with Southwestern Central School's marching band and continued through the years playing with several bands in Ohio and Orlando, Florida. His love in life was music and he was a great fan of the Beatles and George Harrison. Matt was always a kind and loving person. Besides his mother, Onnolee of Jamestown, surviving is his daughter, Danielle Freay of Cincinnati, OH; a brother, Charles Freay, Jr. of Toms River, NJ; a stepson, Kyle Lea of Cincinnati; as well as his partner, Barb Gossman. Matt was preceded in death by his father, Charles, who died July 1, 2023. His funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, Dec. 16th in the Lind Funeral Home. Bishop Leecroft Clarke will officiate. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Saturday.
