Obituary of Mary A. Olander

Mary A. Olander, 80, formerly of Jamestown, NY, passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 2, 2024 in Montoursville, Pa. where she had resided since 2016 to be near her daughters and beloved grandchildren. Mary was born June 15, 1943 in Salamanca, NY, a daughter of the late William and Pearl Powers Olander. She was a graduate of Jamestown High School and received her associate degree from Jamestown Community College. She had been a caseworker for the Chautauqua County Dept. of Social Services, helping care for young children for twenty years. Mary enjoyed painting, music, reading, shopping, meeting new people, and also shopping! She was a strong, courageous and understanding woman who gave her all to help anyone in need. She was a loyal friend, a devoted mother, and a loving grandmother. Surviving are two daughters, MeriLyn (Dean) Severson of Cogan Station, PA, and Penny Walker of Williamsport, PA; her grandchildren, Collin Walker, Chloe Walker and Connor Walker, and great-granddaughter, Lavender; and two siblings, Donald Olander and Carl Olander. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a twin sister, Marge Olander in 2018. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6th in the Lind Funeral Home, led by Pastor Timothy Smart. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday prior to the funeral service. The family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
