Obituary of William D. Olson

William D. Olson, 93, formerly of Jamestown, NY, died Sunday, February 11, 2024, at Warren Manor in Warren, PA. A Jamestown native, he was born on January 6, 1931, to the late D. Gunnard and Florence (Longeway) Olson. He married Jean (Gustafson) Olson on August 24, 1952. A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he served for twenty years on active duty during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and then served for ten years in the reserves. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant. Bill had many civilian jobs as well. He worked in the insurance industry for Blue Cross/Blue Shield, as a meter reader for the city of Jamestown, and at Cummins Jamestown engine plant prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. When asked, "Bill, how are you?", he will be remembered for his standard answer, "Lousy!" Surviving are two children, Beth Campbell of Warren, PA and Steven Olson of Jamestown, NY; two granddaughters who called him "G", Dr. Leah Campbell (Paul Szymczuk) of Erie, PA and Lily Nobles (Jason) of Warren, PA; three great-grandchildren, Isaac Szymczuk and Audrey and Ada Nobles. "G" was a proud great-grandparent and enjoyed frequent visits from his great-grandchildren with whom he would joke and play games. His face always brightened when they entered the room. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean (Gustafson) Olson on December 13, 2022. They had just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. A graveside service will be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank those who cared for Bill, especially the Rouse Suites staff and his home care nurses.
