Obituary of Leonard G. Wallgren, Sr.

Leonard G. Wallgren, Sr. 82, of 1080 Lakeview Ave. went home to be with his heavenly father at 7:47 a.m. Monday (April 26, 2010) in W.C.A. Hospital. A lifelong area resident he was born February 1, 1928 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Carl Gustaf and Esther Ruth Johnson Wallgren. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Headquarters Troop 1st Calvary Division from January 17, 1946 to June 26, 1947 during World War II. Before his retirement he was a foreman in the radiator division of the former Blackstone Corporation where he worked for over 40 years. He attended the Fluvanna Community Church and was a member of the Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion, Celoron, the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, the War Vets Recreation Club and the Ingjald Lodge 65 Independent Order of the Vikings. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family and traveling with his wife. He enjoyed his many years riding his motorcycle and loved to carve wooden Swedish "dala" horses. Surviving are his wife the former Marguerite Anderson whom he married April 21, 1951, two daughters Elaine (Philip) Caflisch of Lakewood, NY, Barbara (Gary) Dodge of Ft. Myers, FL. five grandchildren Jennifer Wilson, Sarah Combs, Rachel Apple all of FL, Kathryn MacDonald of Lexington, KY, John Caflisch of Lakewood, four great grandchildren Willis and Hailey Wilson, Ethan and Alayna Combs and a sister Elaine Stolpe of Jamestown. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son Leonard G. "Chip" Wallgren, Jr. who died October 22, 1967, a grandson Shawn Wallgren Dodge who died June 7, 1999 and a brother Hilmer N. Wallgren who died April 25, 1994. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Fluvanna Community Church. The Rev. Richard D. Keefer, assistant pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home.
