Obituary of Sally D. Vullo

Sally D. Vullo, 85, of 16 Ellis Ave. passed away at 8:30 p.m. Sunday (May 16, 2010) in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by her loving family. A lifelong area resident she was born January 31, 1925 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late Joseph and Sarah Caprino Albano. Sally was a 1944 graduate of Jamestown High School. She was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and enjoyed working with the ladies on church activities. She was an avid participant in charity walks, and inspired her grandchildren to join her. They have since vowed to carry on the tradition. Sally's life was driven by her love for her family and fellow man. Beyond her devotion to her late husband, to her children and her grandchildren she spent her life caring for others. As a young lady, she worked as a nurse for Dr. Peter P. Vitanza and then after her children were grown she worked at both Landy Drugs and the Medicine Shoppe. She loved sports, especially roller skating which she began as a child and continued to the age of eighty. Her love of animals, working outdoors, especially in her garden kept her physically active even during her battle with cancer. Her illness never deterred her from sharing in her love for playing cards with longtime beloved friends. She recently compiled a written piece by request called "The Lost Neighborhood" based on her recollections of growing up on Harrison St. She will be remembered as a staunch catholic woman whose faith gave her the spiritual strength to lead a full, uncompromised life. Surviving are four daughters Angela M. Vullo (Stu Rosenblatt) of Leesburg, VA, Sally D. (Kevin) Burns of Busti, NY, Christine V. (Charles) Smith of Ashville, NY, Francesca (Mark) Gustafson of Weddington, NC, a son Leonard C. Vullo of New York City, six grandchildren Sarah D. Burns (John Gaither) of Charlotte, NC, Nicole L.
