Obituary of Grace M. Valvo

Grace M. Valvo, 84, of 92 W. Fairmount Avenue, Lakewood, passed away Wednesday June 30, 2010, in Hamot Medical Center, Erie. A native of Jamestown, she was born November 26, 1925, a daughter of the late Onofrio and Clara Carmen Piazza. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and had served as a minister of prayer. Grace always put her family first. She loved to cook, bake and play games, especially cards. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and the joy she brought to everyone around her. Surviving are three children Antoinette (Joseph) Juliano of Westfield, Joseph (Nancy) Valvo of West Ellicott and Anthony (Barbara) Valvo of Lakewood; five grandchildren William and Michael Nowell, Joseph Valvo, Lisa Gerber and Samuel Valvo; three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Sam Valvo October 9, 1996, a sister Carmela Stravato, an infant brother Dominic Piazza and four brothers Carl, Angelo, Victor and Dominic Piazza. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Msgr. Joseph M. Dowdell will be celebrant. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home where the Rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service will be led at 1:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
