Obituary of Dorothy W. Elmeer

Dorothy Evelyn Elmeer, 95, formerly of 15 Valerie Lane, died at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday (January 20, 2010) at Heritage Park Rehab & Skilled Nursing. She was the widow of Paul G. Elmeer, whom she married October 10, 1936 and who died April 16, 1977. A lifelong Jamestown resident, she was born January 26, 1914, the eldest daughter of the late Erhard and Dora Vestling Woleen. Dorothy was a 1932 graduate of Jamestown High School and attended Jamestown Community College in the 1980's. She belonged to First Lutheran Church. A perpetual student, she was an avid reader, a fan of crossword puzzles and the Buffalo sports teams, and in the winter months for many years enjoyed bowling. She and her late husband were members of the Maplehurst Country Club and Chautauqua Golf Club. Surviving are her daughter, Marcia E. (Dr. David) Dorman of Louisville, KY and son, Dr. Gordon P. Elmeer of Farmington, NM; six grandchildren: Bryan D. Dorman of Kempten, Germany, Dr. Bruce P. (Lori) Dorman of Bradenton, FL, Charles W. Dorman of Jersey City, NJ, Andrew M. (Carolyn) Elmeer of Manchester, CT, Tracey A. (Dale) Fessler of Salisbury, MO and Heather L. (James) Williams of Napierville, IL; thirteen great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Helen Woleen of Jamestown and nephew, John Pearson of Gerry, NY; and a special Freundin, Monika Nothhelfer of Munich, Germany. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, June Pearson, Bernice Knorr and Lucille Erickson; a brother, Raymond Woleen; and her sister-in-law, Vivian L. Carlson. A private family graveside service will be held. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed at this time. A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced by the Lind Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Prendergast Library Assoc., 509 Cherry St., Jamestown, NY 14701.
