Obituary of Catherine A. Short

Catherine A. "Nanny" Short, 51, of Jamestown died at 2:05 p.m. Saturday (January 9, 2010) in W.C.A. Hospital. Cathy was a 1976 graduate of Southwestern Central School and was an employee of Truck-Lite Corporation for over 22 years. She will be so sadly missed by all her family and friends whose lives were touched by her warmth, her humor and her devotion. Cathy was an avid golfer, gardener, and photographer. She also enjoyed cooking, taking care of all her friends (her gave her the nickname "Nanny"), and loving her pets. She was a member of two golf leagues, winning numerous prizes and awards. She was also a member of several winning teams at the Annual Links Charity/LPGA Pro-Am Tournament at Moon Brook Country Club. She took great pride in her gardens, growing beautiful roses and perennials Surviving are her partner Deb LaBarbera, her father Allen Short, her stepmother Elaine Short, two sisters Pamela (Maury) Ahlman of Gilbert, AZ, Diane (Roland) Swanson of Brockport, NY, a brother Thomas Short of Jamestown and two step-brothers Jeffrey (Francesca) Amann and Kevin (Josy) Amann all of San Francisco, CA. She is also survived by three aunts Jean Hudson, Susanne Brown, Marilou Ruske, and an uncle Robert (Jean) Rohrer of Buffalo, her nieces Lindsay (Geoffrey) Stephens, Sarah (Todd) Freeman, Julie Dole of Panama, her nephews Jeffrey (Sarah) Swanson, Michael (Amanda) Swanson, Ryan Short, Jennifer Short, Nathan Short of Panama and Christopher Dole of Lakewood, nine cousins also survive. Cathy was preceded in death by her mother Sylvia Short, her aunt Winifred Wyant, her uncle Ian Hudson and a cousin Kathy Hartwick. A celebration of Cathy's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2010 in the Lind Funeral Home, 805 W. Third St., Jamestown, NY. The Rev. Jeffrey Hedin of Rochester will officiate. Friends will be received from 4-6 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2010 in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Cathy's wish was for memorials to be made to the Susan G. Komen for The Cure, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265-0309 or to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2925 Strunk Rd. Jamestown, NY 14701
