Obituary of Donald C. Wells

Donald C. Wells, 61, of 3640 Wells Bay Road, Ashville, died in his home at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday (June 30, 2010) following a five year battle with cancer. He was the husband of Donna Curtis Wells whom he married December 18, 1971. Don was born in Jamestown on August 18, 1948, a son of Mildred Card Wells Smith and the late Marcus H. Wells. He graduated from Chautauqua High School in 1966 and later attended the Hartford Airline Personnel School. In earlier years he was employed by Delta Airlines in New York and Circle Y in Yokum, Texas. He was later part owner with his late step-father, Myron Smith, of S & W Western Store in Stow, employed by several area contractors and in 1975 became self-employed as a contractor. Don was confirmed in the Magnolia United Methodist Church and had attended Hurlbut United Methodist Church and Bemus Point United Methodist Church. He was a past commander and former county commander of the Sons of the American Legion, Herman Kent Post #777. Don will be remembered as a good son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, neighbor and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, fishing, hunting and boating. He loved his time on Chautauqua Lake. Don touched everyone with whom he came in contact. Along his wife, Donna, and his mother of Gerry, surviving are two sons, Douglas E. (Korinda) Wells of Ashville and Daniel A. (Jennifer) Wells of Jamestown; three grandchildren, Alex E., Patrick D. and Jackson C. Wells; a sister, Marcia Jane O'Brien of Ashville; two brothers, Marshall H. (Joanie) Wells of Stow and Alfred C. (Jane) Wells of Panama; brother-in-law Robert D. (Maggie) Curtis of Mt. Pleasant, SC; three nephews, Marcus H. Wells, Travis H. Wells and Richard A. Delahoy, Sr.; four nieces, Nancy J. Lawson, Amy E. Ray, Corie A. Curtis and Kali J. Curtis; and several great nieces & nephews and aunts & uncles. In addition to his father who died in 1961, he was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Merle and Mary Wells and maternal grandparents Cecil and Mabel Card, Sr. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Thomas Scriven will officiate. Burial will be in the Westfield Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
