Obituary of Carol J. Melquist

Carol J. Melquist, 85, of 111 Parkview Ave., passed away Sunday, September 13, 2009 peacefully in her home. She was born February 23, 1924 in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Harry and Edna Rosean Winterburn. A lifelong Jamestown resident, she was the widow of Donald L. Melquist whom she married October 23, 1942 and who died October 6, 1998. Carol was a 1942 graduate of Jamestown High School and in earlier years had been employed by Unigard Insurance. She later worked for many years for the MRC Credit Union. Her greatest love was her family. She was a loving matriarch and her happiness and love for them emanated through her smile which she carried throughout her life. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Surviving is a son, David B. (Linda) Melquist and daughter, Diane K. (Chad) Madden, both of Jamestown; eight grandchildren: Jonathan Melquist of Oklahoma City, OK, Marcia Melquist of Virginia Beach, VA, Patty Melquist of Albuquerque, NM, Shelly (Todd) Cordosi of Jamestown, Lori (Mike) Ducat of Lakewood, Sherry (Mark) Foster of Westlawn, PA and Courtney and Celeste Madden, both of Jamestown; seven great grandchildren: Kody (Nikki) Cordosi, Kasey Cordosi, Kurry Cordosi, Audrey Ducat, Erika (Gary) Herwitz, Thomas Barlow and Kaylee Foster; two great great grandchildren, Jayden and Gabbriella Herwits; a brother, Robert (Carol) Winterburn and sister, Betty J. Kettle, both of Jamestown; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Donald B. Melquist and great grandson, Kurt M. Cordosi. The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Rick Miller, pastor of Zion Covenant Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo Foundation, P.O.
