Obituary of Johanna J. Allen

Johanna J. Allen, 70, of 36 Campbell Ave., died Thursday June 4, 2009, in her home. A Jamestown native, she was born October 14, 1938, a daughter of the late James and Ruth Hawkinson Klomp. She was a 1956 graduate of Southwestern Central School. Prior to her retirement in 2000, she was employed by Jamestown Community College for 25 years as a secretary. She was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish, St. John Church. She was a former member of Beta Sigma Phi International. Johanna was a voracious reader of books and magazines. Following retirement she learned to play the piano, refinish furniture and knit. She and a group of friends took part in a weekly knitting group for several years. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved being with her family and attending her grandchildren's special events. She will be greatly missed by her beloved cat Harry. Surviving are two sons Michael R. Allen (Debbie Smeragliuolo) of Jamestown, Jeffrey D. Allen (Sandra) of Midlothian, VA, two daughters Dr. Nancy Allen (Dr. Robert Daniels) and Martha Abers (Nathan), both of Jamestown, six grandchildren Katlyn Johanna Allen of Midlothian, VA, Logan James Allen of Las Vegas, NV, Chloe and Benjamin Richard, Berit "Bea" and Emma Abers, all of Jamestown, her best friend and beloved companion of many years Sebastian "Busty" Riolo of Jamestown, a cousin Charles Hawkinson of Erie, PA and a niece Carol Robertson of California. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a grandson Liam Abers, a sister Trudy Odekirk and a brother James Klomp. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Apostles Parish, St. John Church. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-5 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 1:45 p.m. Sunday.
