Obituary of Elmo Keeton

Elmo Keeton, 75 and long-time resident of Fairfield County, passed away July 24, 2010 at WCA Hospital in Jamestown, New York. Elmo was born September 1, 1934 in Sandy Hook, Kentucky, the son of Thornton and Reka Keeton. It was in Amanda that he met and married Vera Belle Bowman and they began their lives together on April 14, 1956. He lived most of his life in Baltimore, Ohio, was a successful businessman and proprietor of Keeton's Auto Service in Amanda and Baltimore, Fairfield Radiator in Lancaster, and Midway Speedway in Perry County. Stockcar racing was a large part of his life. He built his own race cars and traveled much of the country. After retirement in 1994, he became an avid fisherman. He enjoyed walleye fishing out of Ashtabula on Lake Erie and was also a commercial shrimper on the intra-coastal at Oak Hill, Florida. Elmo's life was filled with many good friends he made working, racing and fishing. He was dedicated to his family, work and friends. He is survived by his wife, Vera Bowman Keeton; daughter and son in-law Dan and Connie Evans of Jamestown, New York; grandchildren Nicholas and Madeline Evans; son and daughter in-law Chris and Sandy Keeton of Springfield, Ohio; grandchildren Wesley and Anna Keeton. A memorial service will be held August 29, 2010 at 2:30 pm. at Trinity United Church of Christ in Baltimore. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association PO Box 15120, Chicago, IL, 60693.
