Obituary of Robert E. Larson

Robert E. Larson, 88, formerly of 535 Cole Ave. and 40 Laurie Lane in Jamestown and 4591 Warner Bay, Bemus Point, died at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at Heritage Village Rehab & Skilled Nursing. He was the husband of the late Shirley Meehan Larson whom he married September 24, 1942 and who died January 1, 2007. Bob was born September 5, 1921 in Jamestown, the son of the late C. Elmer and Alice Booth Larson and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army, with duty in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, from November of 1942 until his discharge as a Master Sergeant in February 1946. Bob retired as Vice President and Treasurer of Chautauqua Storage & Transfer in Jamestown. A communicant of St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church, he was also a member of the Vikings and Thule Lodges, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club and the Ira Lou Spring Post #149 American Legion. Surviving are six children: Bradley D. (Marilyn) Larson of Ontario, NY, Susan T. Barnes of Geneva, NY, Paul E. (Claudia) Larson of Strongsville, OH, Sally A. (Jacob) Saulsgiver of Aliquippa, PA, Amy E. (Steven) Calarco and Mary A. Larson, both of Jamestown; ten grandchildren: Eric (Melissa) Barnes of Churchville, MD, Nicole (Bryan) Federici of Millbury, MA, Michael Calarco of Rochester, NY, Bethany and Katy Calarco of Jamestown, Jenifer Larson of Tupper Lake, NY, Robert Larson of Rochester, NY, and Megan Larson, Matthew Larson and Sean Patrick, all of Strongsville, OH; and four great-grandchildren: Alyssa and Aaron Barnes of Churchville and Madison and Morgan Federici of Millbury. In addition to his wife and parents, Bob was preceded in death by two brothers, Carlton and Donald Larson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bemus Point. The Rev. John L. Kuhlmann will be celebrant. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc. of WNY, 2805 Wehrle Drive, Suite 6, Williamsville, NY 14221; St. Mary of Lourdes Church, 42 Main St., Bemus Point, NY 14712; or the American Heart Assoc., Heart Gifts Center, P.O.
