Obituary of John W. Carlson

John W. Carlson, 66, of 2276 Willard Street Ext., died unexpectedly Friday, Sept. 24, 2010 in his home. He was born in Jamestown on October 5, 1943, a son of the late Gust A. and Elsie Edborg Carlson. John had been employed by the former Jamestown Metal Manufacturing and retired in 2009 from Jamestown Advance Products where he worked as an engineer. Known to many as 'Uncle John', John's greatest enjoyment was time with his children and grandchildren. He also took pleasure in gardening. Surviving are a son, Steven J. Carlson (Sheila) and daughter, Kerrin Carlson-Moffett (David), both of Jamestown; three grandchildren: Shelby Francis, John Carlson and Mallissa Carlson, all of Jamestown; a brother, Wayne G. Carlson (Theresa) of Jamestown; several nieces and nephews, including Matthew Carlson of Colorado Springs, CO and Jennifer Downey of Westwood, VA; and his great-niece and nephew, Lyra Carlson and Jacob Downey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Terrill and Reynold Carlson. A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald E. Ray will officiate. Friends will be received for two hours prior to the service in the funeral home Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua Region Multiple Sclerosis Society, P.O.
