Obituary of Elizabeth H. Proctor

Elizabeth H. Proctor, 93, of the Bergquist Memorial Home on the Heritage Village Retirement Campus, Gerry formerly of 4967 Main St. Bemus Point, NY passed away at 1:11 p.m. Monday (October 18, 2010) in W.C.A. Hospital. She was born November 25, 1916 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late Clark H. and Ruby Morse Proctor. Elizabeth was a graduate of Jamestown High School and earned her bachelor's degree from Otterbein College in Westerville, OH. In earlier years she was a high school math teacher in the Salamanca and Alden, NY school districts. From 1952-1977 she was a pastor's assistant at the Kingsley United Methodist Church, the Glenwood United Methodist Church and the Cascade United Methodist Church all in Erie, PA. She was also a substitute teacher in Chautauqua County for several years. She was a member of the Bemus Point United Methodist Church and was a volunteer for the St. Susan's Center and the Update Reading Service for the Blind and Visually Impaired. For over 45 years she and her parents shared in the operation of a summer cabin business in Bemus Point called "Proctor's Cabins". In previous years she was also very active in the Girl Scouts and their activities, which meant a lot to her. She was also an avid knitter and enjoyed traveling in her spare time. Surviving is a cousin Donald Brugge of Lakewood, NY and her long time friend Shirley Baumgartner of Greenhurst, NY. She was preceded in death by her father who died April 22, 1989 and her mother who died January 22, 1983. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel G. McBride, pastor of the Bemus Point United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Bemus Point Cemetery. Friends will be received following the service in the funeral home.
