Obituary of George B. Larson

George B. Larson, 81, of 20 Swan St. passed away at 8:15 p.m. Friday (November 12, 2010) in his home. A lifelong area resident he was born June 29, 1929 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Oscar R. and Hilda A. Stoberg Larson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1950-1954 during the Korean War. Before his retirement he was employed for 38 years at the National Fuel Gas Company. He had also worked as a bartender for the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club for 25 years. He was a member of the Lakewood Memorial Post #1286 American Legion for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Adelmens Club, the Elks Lodge, the Eagles Lodge, the Viking Lodge, the War Vets Recreation Club and several other clubs in the area. He will be remembered as one who love to spend time boating on Chautauqua Lake, playing golf and taking care of his cars. He also loved socializing with his family and many friends over the years. Surviving are his wife the former Carol H. Priest whom he married July 23, 1989, a daughter Celeste S. (Scott) Currie of Sugar Grove, PA, three step-daughters Karen (Greg) Freed of Albany, GA, Sharon (Scott) Vik of Mooresville, NC, Brenda (Tad) Henderson of Gerry, NY, 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Reynold O. Larson who died August 10, 2007. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Deacon Cathy Smith, chaplain of Hospice Chautauqua County will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
