Obituary of Richard A. Schwartz

Richard A. Schwartz, 76, of 625 Frew Run Road, Frewsburg, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, November 15, 2010, at home with family and friends. He was born September 30, 1934 in Jamestown, a son of the late Gustav and Elsie Schuster Schwartz, and was a 1952 graduate of Jamestown High School and the University of Buffalo School of Pharmacy in 1958. A "neighborhood" pharmacist, Richard owned and operated several local pharmacies collectively called "Professional Community Pharmacies" since 1964, and most recently operated and owned the Frewsburg Community Pharmacy. He was an active member of the New Covenant Assembly and its church board. An avid sailor, Richard was always at the starting line --, knowing the finish would be grand. He was a member of the Chautauqua Yacht Club and the Flying Scot Association. Together with his wife, he lived on and sailed their dream yacht "Autumn Passage" in the British Virgin Islands after several voyages from the Great Lakes to the Caribbean. It will always be said that Richard 'lived his dash well' and touched the lives of many people by living his faith. He is survived by his wife, Mary Wirsen Schwartz whom he married June 6, 1982; their children: Karen A. Schwartz, Kurt A. Schwartz, Karl A. (Lisa) Schwartz, Debra K. (Michael) Liuzzo, Marcia L. (Craig) Zinger, Gregory S. (Colleen) Nelson and Lisa J. Nelson; grandchildren: Jessica, Julia and Samuel Schwartz, Rachel Betts, Josh and Andrew Weinstein, Stefanie, Jaime and Paige Nelson, and Isabella and Avianna Liuzzo; great-grandchildren, Hailey Betts and Aiden Maybach; and his grand-dog, Little Bear. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack E. Schwartz. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the New Covenant Assembly, 17 Arlington Ave., Jamestown. The Rev. K. Trevor Coburn will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Covenant Assembly, 17 Arlington Ave., Jamestown, NY 14701; St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 6360 Rte. 242 East, Ellicottville, NY 14731; or to Hospice of Chautauqua County, 20 West Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.
