Obituary of Gerald J. Corkery

Gerald J. "Jerry" Corkery, 72, of 105 Springwater Court, Coraopolis, PA, formerly of Jamestown, died Saturday January 15, 2011, after a brief illness, in Sewickley Hospital. A native of Jamestown, he was born April 27, 1938, a son of Gerald J. Corkery and Mary Josephine "Jo" Straughen Corkery. He was a 1955 graduate of Jamestown High School and attended Gannon College. Jerry was a 40 plus year employee of the rail road, beginning his career with the Erie-Lackawanna in Jamestown. Through his rail road career he held various positions including Yard Master for Conrail in Jamestown, and retiring from the NCSC Division of CSX in Pittsburgh in 2000. While living in Jamestown he was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church. His Irish eyes were always smiling whenever he was with family and friends. He enjoyed the simple things in life: the changing of the seasons, a family gathering or going to church. He loved his wife Kay, and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be missed every day. His love and concern for the less fortunate is a legacy he leaves for his survivors. Saint Susan's center was among one of his favorite charities. Surviving are his wife Catherine "Kay" Benoit Corkery, whom he married June 19, 1965, three children Karry Y. (Don) Camp of Erie, PA, Todd E. Corkery of Jamestown and Kevin L. (Sarah) Corkery of West Oneonta, NY and ten grandchildren Dylan C. Camp and Megan C. Camp of Erie, PA, Toby J. Corkery, Shane E. Corkery, Jared M. Corkery of Olean, Maren O. Corkery, Colette E. Corkery Grace M. Corkery, Karoline R. Corkey and Frances C. Corkery of West Oneonta. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Jeanne Corkery Wiltsie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in Holy Apostles Parish Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 1:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to Saint Susan Center, PO Box 1276, Jamestown, NY 14702.
