Obituary of Helen I. Gerran

Helen I. Gerran, 88, of 9 Crane St. formerly of 16 Bush St. died at 3:50 p.m. Friday (January 21, 2011) in WCA Hospital. She was born February 14, 1922 in Jamestown the daughter of the late Carl Emil and Bertha Larson Johnson. Helen was a 1940 graduate of Jamestown High School. She worked as a legal secretary for Samuel Conte for 20 years; Harvey Parker for 20 years; and Johnson Peterson Tener and Anderson for 7 years. Helen will be remembered by her family and friends as a truly kind and gentle person. She was a true friend to many and a devoted and faithful member of Bethel Lutheran Church for over 79 years where she was active with the quilting group. She thoroughly enjoyed the affection of her family. Helen was well known for baking angel food cakes for everyone's birthday and special occasions. Her family feels truly blessed to have had her as their aunt, and treasure her memory. Helen is survived by two nieces, Barbara (Bob) Grove of Monongahela, PA; Shirley (Bucky) Brown of Jamestown; a nephew, Carl (Diane) Williams of Jamestown; five great nieces and nephews, Heather Brown (Sam Triscari), Douglas (Alda) Brown, Mickey (Tracy) Brown, Jason (Holly) Williams, Stephanie Williams; and five great great nieces and nephews, Bradley Brown, Mia Bella Brown, Kianna Wilson, Brayden Brown, and Andrew Williams. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, L. Charles Gerran whom she married December 1, 1979 and who died November 19, 1998; her sister, Margaret Williams who died in 2002; and her step mother, Mildred Nordine Johnson. A Memorial Service in celebration of Helen's life will be held on Saturday February 12th at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church, 904 West Third St. Jamestown. The family will receive friends at a luncheon immediately following the service at the church.
