Obituary of Janet L. Berlinghoff

Janet L. Berlinghoff, 72, of 128 Aldren Avenue, died Saturday January 22, 2011, in Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, NY. A Jamestown native, she was born September 2, 1938, a daughter of the late Eric and Jennie Pearson Carlson. She was a graduate of Jamestown High School and State University of New York at Fredonia with a degree in Nursery/Pre K and Elementary Education. She was employed by the Jamestown Public School System as a teacher at Charles Street and Fletcher Elementary Schools. She was an active member of First Covenant Church having served on numerous boards and committees. She along with her husband and Russell and JoAnn Johnson were instrumental in founding the Living Christmas Tree at First Covenant Church. Her other memberships include Delta Kappa Gamma, Marvin Community House and Gideon International Auxiliary. The most important things in her life were her faith, her family and her friends. Surviving are two children Clayton L. (Dee) Berlinghoff III of Hopewell Junction, NY and Cheryl L. (Gregory) Cummings of Waukegan, IL; two grandsons Eric C. Berlinghoff and Adam J. Berlinghoff, both of Hopewell Junction; two step grandchildren Gregory Cummings II of Kenosha, WI and Sean Cummings of Illinois; two step great grandchildren Davin Cummings and Kiley Cummings, both of Kenosha and a sister Carol (Roy) Gustafson of Jamestown. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Clayton L. Berlinghoff, Jr., whom she married August 29, 1959 and who died January 2, 2003. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. David B. Larson, retired director of visitation of First Covenant Church will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 1-3 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
