Obituary of Emmi A. Sedlack

Emmi A. Sedlack, 77, of 3249 Matson Road, died at 4:15 a.m. Sunday February 13, 2011) in WCA Hospital. She was born in Bremen, Germany on March 19, 1933, the daughter of Emmi Pundt Behnke and the late Christian Wilhelm Pundt. She later came to the United States in 1953 after receiving her education at the Liceum in Bremen. Emmi loved gardening, classical music, embroidery, sewing, crafts and traveling. She was a member of the Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Depew, NY, the Green Thumb Garden Club, Chautauqua Lake Region Antique Automobile Club, Mercedes Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fluvanna Fire Dept. Her husband and her family meant the world to her. In addition to her mother of Germany, she is survived by her husband of 21 years, Richard A. Sedlack; a daughter, Diane Hirgstetter (Joseph Bell) of Buffalo and son, Chris Hirgstetter (Karen) of Cheektowaga; two brothers, Willi Walter Pundt and Harm (Ulla) Pundt, both of Germany; a stepdaughter, Cheryl Wienert (Kenneth) of Denver, CO and two stepsons, Mark Sedlack (Valerie) of Ohio and Donald Cox (Gabriela) of Las Vegas; five grandchildren: Kaitlyn Hirgstetter, Sydney and Zachary Sedlack, Beth Harper and Jessica Wienert; her special sister-in-law, Ann Cross of Cheektowaga; and many nieces, nephews and good friends. She was preceded in death by her father in 1957 and step-father, Erich Behnke in 1995; a brother, Manfred Pundt in 1950; her husband, Earl Cox in 1984; and former husband and father of her children, Fred Hirgstetter in 2004. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. There will be a time of remembrance and prayer at 8 p.m. Thursday following the visitation in the funeral home, led by the Rev. Dean M. Hunneshagen. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 1025 Borden Road, Depew, NY at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 26th with a reception to follow. The Rev. Hunneshagen will again officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 1025 Borden Road, Depew, NY 14043; Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750; or the Fluvanna Fire Dept., 3536 Fluvanna Ave., Jamestown, NY 14791.
