Obituary of Louise E. Schmidt

Louise E. Schmidt, 82, of 3274 Turner Road, Jamestown, died Monday February 28, 2011 in WCA Hospital. A native of Buffalo, she was born June 5, 1928, a daughter of the late Karl and Katarina Filsinger Neuburger. She graduated from Gardenville High School in 1946. She married Melvin W. Schmidt on May 28, 1949 Prior to her retirement she worked as secretary for her husband's business Mel Schmidt Heating and Cooling, West Seneca. She earlier had been employed by Marine Trust Company as a teller and Gardenville Elementary School as an aide. She was a member of St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bemus Point, NY and a former communicant of 14 Holy Helpers Church, Gardenville and of Our Lady of Sacred Heart, Colden, NY. She was a member of Buffalo Schwaben Mens and Ladies Chorus, Schuhplattler Verein Edelweiss, Union Fire Company Auxiliary, Gardenville, DUV German Club, Jamestown Breast Cancer Support Group and Koinonia of Jamestown. She will be remembered as a caring and gentle woman who loved her family and friends. Her faith sustained her and kept her strong. Surviving are two children Linda (Pit) Elsasser of Germany and Thomas (Katherine) Schmidt of Jamestown; twelve grandchildren Kim (Heiko) Hofstaetter of Germany, Kelly Elsasser of Los Angeles, CA, Emely, Maike, Jaemie and Vicky Elsasser, all of Germany, Matthew Schmidt of Cleveland, OH, Katie Schmidt of Washington, DC, Michael Schmidt of Pittsburgh, PA, Lindsay (Darryl) Sit of Moose Factory, Ontario, Canada, Christine (Michael) Turecki of New York City and Matthew (Nikki) Chastain of Atlanta, GA; a great granddaughter Helene Hofstaetter and two sisters Lorraine Kaney of Hamburg and Mildred (Ronald) Malecki of Elma, NY. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband who died January 9, 2004. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. March 3, 2011 in Hurlbut Memorial United Methodist Church. Rev. J. Paul Womack and Rev. Ted Anderson, along with Father Todd Remick will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home where as Koinonia of Jamestown Amazing Grace Sing will be held at 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
