Obituary of Lars Olof Magnuson

Lars Olof Magnuson, 82, of the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of 111 Chandler Street, died Tuesday March 1, 2011 in WCA Hospital. He was born January 27, 1929, in Kristinehamn, Sweden, a son of Gosta and Anna-maja Magnusson. He was employed by Swedish American Cruise Lines from 1947-1959 as a chef. He was aboard the ship Stockholm when it collided with the Andrea Doria in 1956. His other ventures in the restaurant business include as a Sous Chef at Copenhagen Restaurant 1963-1969 and Smorgasbord Restaurant, NYC 1969-1975, where he and Executive Chef John Larsen sold goose liver pate and Swedish delicacies to some of the finest hotels in New York. He was a chef at Colony Club, Springfield, MA in 1975 and Athletic Club, Columbus, OH in 1976. Moving to Jamestown in1977 he and Larsen reunited to open The Governor Fenton Inn. He later worked at the Jamestown Holiday Inn. He was an avid fan of all sports. He loved the Buffalo Bills, New York Rangers and horse racing. He attended Bethel Baptist Church. Surviving is a brother Lars Gunnar Magnusson of Karlskoga, Sweden. He was preceded in death by a sister Britmarie Bennert. The funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev.
