Obituary of Marietta J. Finson

Marietta J. Finson, 88, formerly of 2815 East Ave., Greenhurst, died at 4:40 a.m. Monday (April 18, 2011) at Heritage Green Rehab & Skilled Nursing. She was the widow of Marvin Shaw Finson whom she married June 24, 1950 and who died September 27, 1996. Marietta was born January 15, 1923 in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Clover T. and Olga Anderson Miller, and graduated from Cassadaga Valley Central School. Following high school, she moved to Washington DC where she worked at the Pentagon during World War II. After returning to Jamestown and marriage, she was employed for several years by Fluvanna Elementary School. She later worked for the former Bankers Trust Co., which became Key Bank, retiring from the Southside office in 1980 as head teller. After retirement, Marietta and her late husband enjoyed wintering in Port Isabel, Texas. She was a member of Fluvanna Community Church and took pleasure in her time working with the Home Bureau. Surviving is a daughter, Diane K. (Joe) Salvo of Jamestown and son, John A. (Karen) Finson of Lakewood; ten grandchildren: Aimee (Dennis) Boron of Jamestown, Elizabeth (Perry) Atterbury of Seattle, WA, James (Molly) Finson of Dubai, Andrew (Aimee) Finson of Jamestown, Ruth (Craig) Nelson of Stow, NY, Katherine Kolstee of Dewittville, and Kristy and Molly Woodfield and Laurel and Hannah Finson, all of Lakewood; ten great-grandchildren; and a brother, Clover Timothy (Irene) Miller of Jamestown. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Rick Keefer will officiate. Burial will be in Fluvanna Cemetery. Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.
