Obituary of Roy S. Bernhardt

Roy S. Bernhardt of 5813 Australian Pine Drive, Tamarac, FL and Jamestown, NY, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Monday (June 6, 2011) in the Vitas Inpatient Hospice Center of the University Hospital and Medical Center, Tamarac, FL. Roy was the son of the late Ingard Bernhardt and Ruby Gustafson Bernhardt Brown. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II. Before his retirement he was a real estate investor associated with his wife in Bernhardt Realty for many years. While living in Jamestown he was a member of the Viking Lodge, the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, the War Vets Recreation Club, Elks Lodge and the Moose Lodge. He will be remembered as one who loved birds and also raised finches. He enjoyed dancing and spending time boating on Chautauqua Lake with his family and friends. Surviving are his wife the former Nancy LaBarbera whom he married in January of 1948, two sons, Terry L. Bernhardt (Wendy Berno) of Lantana, FL, Daniel R. (Judy) Bernhardt of Biloxi, MS, five grandchildren Todd (Nancy) Bernhardt of Rochester, NY, Sean Bernhardt of Jamestown, NY, Jesse Bernhardt of Lantana, FL, Joshua Bernhardt of Vero Beach, FL, Nicole Bernhardt of Biloxi, MS and four great grandchildren. Besides his father who died in 1953, his mother who died in 1966, he was preceded in death by a brother Donald R. Bernhardt who died November 7, 1993. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald E. Ray, retired chaplain of W.C.A. Hospital will officiate. Entombment will be in the Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Vitas Innovative Hospice Care, University Hospital and Medical Center, 7201 N.
