Obituary of Evangeline N. Sarro

Evangeline N. Sarro, 98, formerly of 10 Francis Street, passed away at 6:45 a.m. Saturday (June 18, 2011) at the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Boria, Albania to the late Reverend George and Glikeria Ellis Joanethis, she came to the U.S. in 1932. An avid cook and baker, her kitchen was always filled with family and friends enjoying her fabulous Albanian recipes. Mrs. Sarro was a lifelong member of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, active in the Ladies Erene Society, a past choir member and a volunteer at the annual Yassou Festival. She was preceded in death by her husband Nicholas V Sarro whom she married September 6, 1936 and who passed away May 19, 2004; a sister Sophika Shkrodrani, and a brother Paul Joanethis. She is survived by a brother, Terry Jonethis of Brentwood, TN, two sons, Robert (Delia) Sarro of Webster, NY, William (Eileen) Sarro of Durham, NC, two grandchildren, Laura K. Maloney of Webster, NY, and Paul N. Sarro of Rochester, NY, five great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. The Reverend George S. Zervos will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Trisagion Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday.
