Obituary of Hilma M. Hancock

Hilma M. North Hancock, formerly of Frewsburg Rest home, passed away July 14, 2011 at Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. She was born May 3, 1921, in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Gilbert and Hilma Olivia Swanson Lindstrom and was raised by her grandmother Anna Lena Swanson and Uncle Victor Swanson. In the past, she was a minister's wife and worked as a self-employed house cleaner. Hilma and her first husband, Rev. Harold North, Sr., were missionaries in Kingston, Jamaica, WI for two years and camp directors of Camp Crossroads in New Lebanon, PA for three years. They served the Clayton Church of God in New Marlboro, MA for 23 years, retiring in 2001. She loved playing the piano, organ and singing. Since moving back to Jamestown she attended the Salvation Army. Surviving are two sons Harold (Althea) North, Jr of Jamestown and Richard (Caroline) North, Sr of Brightwood, VA; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren; a half brother Gilbert Lindstrom of Sykesville, MD and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, grandmother and uncle, she was preceded in death by her first husband Harold J. North, Sr, November 27, 2002, her second husband Latta G. Hancock September 13, 2009 and a brother Walter Lindstrom. Hilma requested that her body be donated to medical research at the University of Buffalo. Visitation will not be observed. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
